Google Workspace Business, Unlimited Storage, Email Retention & Account-Wide Search

This morning Google announced their latest product Gsuite Business. Google Workspace Business is a new premium offering for businesses that includes all the services in Google Workspace plus unlimited storage, advanced audit reporting, new security controls and Google Vault. Previously, Google Vault was only available to Google App Gmail. Google Vault is a step up from normal backup platforms as it is designed for businesses to retain, archive, search and export the business’s emails and documents for eDiscovery and compliance requirements. As Google Vault is now part of Google Workspace, you can have a backup of your Google Drive documents. GSuite Business has a number of additional features including unlimited document storage in Google Drive. Features available only to Google Workspace Business customers include:
  • Unlimited storage for all employees, including files up to 5 TB in size.
  • New audit reporting so administrators can see activity like moving, deleting or sharing of files within or outside the company. Also, an audit API is present that makes this data available to developers.
  • New security controls so administrators can set sync client, offline, Drive app and add-on settings at the Organizational Unit (OU)-level.
  • Includes Google Apps Vault, which has been expanded to provide search for all content stored in Drive.
Google have also announced that all files uploaded to Google Drive will now be encrypted for all users (consumer and Google Workspace alike). Content encryption will be done not only from user’s devices when connected to Google but also when documents are in transit between Google data centers as well as the rest of Google servers. Additionally, you can now edit Microsoft Office files, such as word .doc and excel .xls files straight in the Google Drive web browser or on your mobile phone. This means you no longer need to purchase Microsoft Office products for editing these files by staff as it can all be done in Google Drive. Google Workspace Business is now available for new and existing Google Workspace customers for $10/user/month or $120/user/year. This is an addition to the monthly or yearly licences you pay for Google.
